A 69-year-old man was found sitting in the sink of a local favorite diner after allegedly breaking into the building late Sunday evening.
Anthony Ferrante, 69, was booked into the Iron County Jail after reportedly using a rock to break into the restaurant.

According to court documents filed in 5th District court, Cedar City Police Department responded to the diner around 8 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had smashed through the building’s glass doors with a rock. When police arrived, they found a cinderblock near the broken doors and Ferrante filling cups with soda.

When ordered to leave, he allegedly claimed he had permission to be there before walking toward the back of the building and refusing to come out.

Once additional officers arrived, a K9 unit was deployed and law enforcement made entry into the diner. After multiple repeated commands were ignored, authorities made their way to the back kitchen where they reportedly found Ferrante sitting in the sink.

After Ferrante was detained, he was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle and booked into the Iron County Jail shortly after midnight.

Ferrante faces two third-degree felonies for burglary and property damage as well as one class B misdemeanor for interfering with a peace officer. According to the charging documents, the estimated damages for the incident were between $1,500 and $4,999.

Police are requesting Ferrante be held without bail citing his transient living status and the risk he may pose to the community. Ferrante reportedly told law enforcement he was “making his way to another state and passing through Cedar on the way.”
