A traffic stop in Iron County led to the arrest of a man on multiple drug-related charges Friday evening.

John Lee Cross, 55, was arrested after a Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped his vehicle for speeding along Interstate 15 near Cedar City.

According to court records filed in 5th District Court, Cross was reportedly traveling 89 mph in an 80-mph zone and had been reported by another driver for speeding and failing to maintain his lane.

During the stop, authorities learned Cross had an outstanding warrant from Salt Lake County’s 3rd District Court for stalking, with a bail set at $5,000. Cross allegedly told troopers the warrant had been recalled and directed them to retrieve paperwork from a white bag inside his vehicle.

Instead, troopers allegedly found CBD gummies. After further questioning, Cross also admitted to having about half an ounce of marijuana wrapped in a bandanna.

A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia, two rocks of hashish, a bag of psilocybin mushrooms, a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, and LSD stamps wrapped in foil.

According to the affidavit, Cross claimed the substance believed to be cocaine was MDMA. Two prescription bottles were also found — one prescribed to another individual and another with no label.

Cross is charged with seven offenses, including five class A misdemeanors for possession of a controlled substance (schedule I/II/analog) and possession of a prescription drug for unlawful purposes. Additionally, he is charged with two class B misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

INDIVIDUALS LISTED ON THIS PAGE HAVE BEEN BOOKED INTO IRON COUNTY JAIL AND ARE ACCUSED OF THE FOLLOWING CRIMES BUT ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
