TWO ARRESTED BY DRUG TASK FORCE AFTER TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO LARGE DRUG SEIZURE

Two people were arrested over the weekend following a traffic stop by the Iron-Garfield-Beaver Narcotics Task Force.

Aaron Dennis, 48, and Billie Jefferson, 38, were both taken into custody and booked into the Iron County Jail on Saturday evening for multiple drug-related charges.

According to court records filed in 5th District Court, agents with the task force stopped a vehicle near the Maverik on South Main Street for expired registration.

While conducting the stop, agents discovered the vehicle was uninsured, and the driver was reportedly without a valid driver’s license.

Task force agents identified the individuals as “known drug users” and noted they had recently executed a search warrant at their home, where multiple syringes containing methamphetamine were reportedly found.

A K9 was requested to conduct a “free air sniff” of the vehicle. Following the sniff, the dog’s handler indicated that agents were “good to search the vehicle,” the affidavit states.

During the search, agents reportedly found a trash bag with a Sour Patch candy box at the passenger’s feet. Inside the box, they allegedly discovered approximately three-quarters of an ounce of methamphetamine.

The court records state “this amount is not a common user amount and is common for distribution amounts.”

Additionally, agents reportedly found tin foil with burnt residue as well as a short straw which was allegedly melted on one end.

During questioning, Jefferson denied knowing the drugs were in the vehicle, while Dennis admitted to purchasing the methamphetamine in Las Vegas. He reportedly told agents he bought the drugs for $100 with the intent to distribute them in Iron County.

Dennis also allegedly told officers that he and Jefferson smoked some of the methamphetamine before returning to Iron County.

After Dennis gave consent, agents searched his phone and reportedly found evidence that he was attempting to distribute methamphetamine to multiple people.

Dennis faces two second-degree felonies for distribution of a controlled substance as well as one third-degree felony for possession with intent to distribute.

Jefferson faces one third-degree felony for possession with intent to distribute and one class B misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia.

INDIVIDUALS LISTED ON THIS PAGE HAVE BEEN BOOKED INTO IRON COUNTY JAIL AND ARE ACCUSED OF THE FOLLOWING CRIMES BUT ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
