Chad Shane Lapniewski, 53, was arrested Tuesday night at the Cedar Lodge hotel on multiple outstanding warrants from both Utah and Colorado.

According to court records filed in 5th District Court, Cedar City Police Department began investigating Lapniewski after receiving a tip that he had active warrants in Colorado for strangulation and might be staying in a hotel in Cedar City.

Authorities were able to locate Lapniewski in Room 110 of the Cedar Lodge and confirmed he was the subject of several active warrants in Utah. After identifying him through records, officers contacted the Colorado Springs Police Department, which confirmed a full extradition warrant for Lapniewski.

Lapniewski was arrested without incident and transported to the Iron County Correctional Facility, where he was booked on the outstanding warrants.

Booking records on the Iron County Sheriff’s Office website suggest Lapniewski was wanted for multiple charges, including fugitive from justice, electronic communication harassment, burglary, theft, and possession of a controlled substance.

Officials requested Lapniewski be held without bail, citing his felony probation status and criminal history, which they say makes him a flight risk.
